Yes.

I've just finished reading Olive Kitteridge. This is the story of a retired schoolteacher, who finds herself using her time to observe the people surrounding her. From her husband, to her former student, to her own child; Olive has the opportunity to achieve insight into the lives of those whom she cares/cared for, inevitably changing her own life's perspective.
I found this book to be packed with all the classic Elizabeth Strout moments. The story is has occasions that will catch you by complete surprise and substance that will make the most of good old irony. Of course, one attribute of Strout's that is ever present in her writing is moment of raw intense emotion. This book is by far one my favorite recommendations for any fiction lover! Olive Kitteridge is one woman who will influence your life for years after reading her story.

Do you like pie? I LOVE pie! After having read Sweetness at the Bottom of The Pie, I now have new found addiction to pie! The best way to summerize this book is to quote the back cover:

"It is the summer of 1950 – and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath. Then someone steals a slice of Mrs. Mullet’s unspeakable custard pie that had been cooling on the kitchen window … As the noose tightens, Flavia decides it is up to her – and her fully equipped Victorian chemical laboratory – to piece together the clues and solve a murder."
I found the writings of Alan Bradley to be completely ravishing. The way Bradley makes each character compelling but, never allows them to be above the story or take away the charisma of Flavia (the main character) is enchanting. This picturesque novel will keep even the best mystery lovers invested and enthralled.

...alright, I was going to write up a few more reviews but, I think I've given you a couple to ponder for now! The last thing I will recommend is for any young adult fiction lovers out there...Impossible by Nancy Werlin. A beautiful suspenseful novel based on the folk ballad "Scarborough Fair," This novel takes you on the journey of a young girl (Lucy) as she discovers the truth about her ancestry. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a fast paced, almost easy read, very entertaining novel!

     Well, then, ENJOY!!

This is lame but...

I have a friend in town. To truely help you understand why this is something I needed to blog out, you need a little history lesson...
Our paths first crossed about 3 years ago. He is this amazing person with an incomparable heart, sincerely caring for everyone around him. He knows where he's going in life and has a deep passion for what he's doing, something worth much admiration! We had a strange almost instant connection but, he doesn't live here and I do. The attempt we made at a long distance relationship was a struggle that (being as immature as I was) I didn't know how to handle. Needless to say, my heart was a little more than hurt. Not on purpose, mind you, just out of bad circumstances, or timing, or a curse of the fates, what have you. In the end, I still think about him.
I'm blogging because, even though I've technically moved on... I've dated, been in relationships, been heart hurt, etc. The idea of him still haunts me. And maybe it's just that, 'the idea of him,' I don't know for sure. All I do know is my throat has been giving me that "cry or choke" feeling ever since he was mention. For years, mind has raced back to him at any reminder; his job, his laugh, friends, certain smiles, even tv shows. The basic knowledge of him being in MY town, in the presence of people that I call friends, it's begging me to ask questions. And I guess the questions I'm throwing out into the universe are...What do I do? Take that risk or wait on those damned fates?

It's raining

It's May 11th and it's raining in Ogden, Utah. I think about all the sun-fun I've had in these last few days and I welcome the rain. This strange sort of magic, that is associated with such a storm, always incompasses my soul. The grass, covered in Adam's ale, is vibrantly green and the cars driving by the coffee shop window are making that familiar "shwoosh" of tires on that thin glass sheet of condensation, and I am invigorated. Maybe it's all the stories I've heard that take place in the rain, maybe it's the romance associated with a downpour, maybe it's all my time spent in Skagway; but whatever it is, my soul is overjoyed by the cloudburst surrounding my little bookstore.

Upcoming Adventures

As most of you know, I am still in school which makes my adventurous soul feel a little stagnant. So, as a result, I have started planning my upcoming trips with friends and family. Here are just a few that I have already agreed to and/or paid for....

Spring Break 2010 ...Off to Vegas again!! I did go to Vegas last year but, this year is with a different group of friends.

I leave for this place in 7 Days....

Joining me will be Heidi, Breanne, Elyse, Camille, Jen and Amanda...I think there might be others showing up from time to time but, these chicas are in for the long haul (one solid week) I'm excited to go and spend more money than I have and party like rockstars in the sun, Pool-side!! haha

The next adventure of my life will happen in 5 weeks (just 3 weeks after my return from vegas) I'm headed off on a cruise to Mexico!! Ole!! Now, generally I am not a big fan of the whole cruise travel plan but, this one will be completely worth it! Just a few days after the last day of the semester; Me, the same girls mentioned above, Kathrine, Chuck, Matt and that one kid (that I can never remember his name and he can never remember mine or anyone else's) are driving to the great state of California where we will get on this....

The Mariner of The Seas

I hope I get a tan....

Next, I have this charming little friend, who has NEVER been to Disneyland. But, recently I have caught myself watching sports on TV (doesn't matter who, just watchin) basketball, football, lacross, soccer and golf. yep, golf! I continually find myself attending WSU sporting events, which is one of my new favorite things to do!! Don't get me wrong I'm a UTE fan through 'n' through but, I have free access to Weber stuff...
I don't really know what's happening...I do know that I like it!! It's quite possible that I really enjoy be around my favorite fellas (one in particular) however, there is nothing like scream cheering at the top of your lungs for the team who's jersey you are proudly sporting!! How did I miss out on all of these events in my many years as a college student?!? I always did this in highschool but, it's a completely different experience now!! hmmm...
Anyway, My next endevour starts in February...RUGBY! That's right folks RUGBY!! Wish me luck in figuring out that one!!

LOves to: all you ghosts who are reading this!! :D

Updates

Well, it's been about 6 months, guess it's time to update my blog.

Once again, Let's bulletin:

- I am in the middle of my Junior year as an English major at Weber State University. Nevermind, that I've been in school for about 600 years. But, I've finally found a degree that I LOVE, know exactly what I wanna do and feel good about it! My professors are amazing and I adore gobbling up all the literature that I can get my hands on!!

- Still working at the Wisebird Bookery. I'm pretty sure I'll end up working here until I graduate. It's a great job and the ambiance of the store really can put me in the best mood!! There is nothing like sitting by the fire, sipping hot chocolate and reading a good book. This is my job folks...try not to be jealous!!

- I'm still living in my townhouse on 35th street. My roommates have become irreplaceable in my life! and, for the most part, they have become like sisters to me! They give me advice, support my decisions, wear my clothes and offer comfort in times of need!! I owe them more than they will ever know and am so grateful that they have come into my life when they did!

- I've taken another break for the theatre world. I love to perform and am certain I will again but, not right now. I love it and miss it but, tis a sacrifice I need to be making to get my life on the track it needs to be.

-My family is doing well! The parents are amazing, as per usual! They have taken Rylee in to the house again and she will be attending WHS this next semester. Dani is the cutest mom I have ever seen! Toby just graduated from WSU and they are doing well! Lachlan is the most adorable munchkin in all the land!! He's taken to being "shy" around me, which is his way of messing with me. Stuart joined the national guard and will be heading off to basic next month. It'll be hard to have him gone but, I know that he really wants to do this and I can already see a difference in his life. LOVES

- I have the most phenomenal friends!!! It has been an amazing year! To name a FEW of the people who have made a difference in my life in 2009: Reagan, Tiara, Jen Perry, Tyson, Elise, Jacci, Katie, Ginny, Michelle, Missy, Steve, Breanne, Heidi, Devin, Jen Z, Aleah, Lynndsey, Shelley.... Literally just naming a few! (if you're not on here, you still mean the world to me, these names just stood out to me today!) Ok, I realize I haven't blogged in a REALLY REALLY long time! Many of you have sent me messages and told me I need to so... Here's one!!

So, let's bulletin! Shall we...

~I still work at the Wisebird Bookery in Ogden! It's this Amazing little bookstore, that's kinda hidden behind the glamour that is Javier's (hahah) but, we are quaint and quirky, which let's face it...I LOVE!!

~Even though it pains my heart, I did not make it back to Skagway this summer. I figured catching up on my school work and staying somewhere warm would be good for me, and it really has!! Not to mention getting to be around some people I've missed in my life, has been amazing! I miss my R.O friends muchly but, we'll meet again!!

~So...I've returned to the stage after an almost 2 year absence! (hahaha!! I'm SO awesome!hahaha) umh, I just completed a short run of Shakespeare's Othello with Beehive Theatre Company. It was an experience, to say the least but, I am glad I had the opportunity to work with an upcoming company and spending time with some really good people!! I think I might even audition to work with them again in their upcoming production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

~I moved!! I live in Ogden now on 35th street (walking distance to school) and I have four roommates! All girls, 3 of which are return sister missionaries and the other is on institute counsel. For those of you who know me the very best you can see how I was a bit more than worried to move in but, I think things are going really well! The girls are way fun and sweet and I have a home cooked meal everynight!! Not to mention I am saving millions on gas by not having to drive to and from North Ogden twice a day!!! I haven't filled my tank in 2 weeks...believe it!

~Now despite the rumor that is going around...NO! I am not in a relationship! I don't know how many of you can believe this silly rumor! I'm generally a free spirit!! However, there is a gentle fellow in my life that has made me pounder the possiblity but, I have yet to accept or refuse any offers. :)

Ok... that's about all! Aren't blogs silly?!? you get to create this whole webpage where you can talk about anything you want and generally you just end-up using the space to update the world on your life!! I love it!!! Maybe my next blog will be about books again! I've read some good ones lately....

This weeks books!!

OK, so....I decided something I wanted to do with my page was talk about the books I've been reading. As most of you know, I run a little bookstore in Ogden called The Wisebird Bookery. It's a lot of fun and gives me the opportunity to do a LOT of reading. Thus, I've decided that I am going to post some of the books that I've been reading lately. If you think that you might like the books I read (cause, I'm awesome!) then here is a good place for you too look at the ones I'm recommending to the world!!

Since this is the first time I am going to be posting something like this I figured I would start with a few different titles! (Hopefully, I'll only post ONE book at a time after this!)

To start....Those of you who know me best, know that I ADORE young adult fiction. I'm not sure why (probably because I'm immature....whateves.) but, I do. This will bring me to talk about a book I've recently read called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Now, I know a few of you may be getting sick of a certain vampire book out there so, I can report to you that this book has no supernatural essence to it. In this story the young heroine, Katniss, has been taken away by her government to fight (to the death) with 23 of her peers until only one remains. As the entire country watches, live on television, the horrible things these kids have to do to protect there own lives, Katniss learns more about her government, being in the public eye, her self worth, the importance of others and of course love (this is young adult fiction after all.) Collins' imaginative writing and intriguing sense of truth in an extreme version of reality will have you staying up to all hours just to spend sometime living the life of Katniss Everdeen. The only thing disappointing about this particular novel is that it's just the being of a series and thus...you are left with a craving for more, that is not yet accessible. I highly recommend this book to Everyone!!

For my next choice, I'm going to talk about a book that I recommend pretty much on a daily basis. The majority of you have probably already had me talk to you about it. Let me start by saying that I do have a personal attachment to this book because, after reading it is when I knew that I loved literature and that I needed to have it in my own, personal life. This book is called Midwives By Chris Bohjalian. As an adult fiction, it has been feature on Oprah's bookclub and received outstanding reviews across the nation. The story is told from a woman's perspective as she reflects back on her younger years and growing up with a mother as a midwife. She talks about how her mothers world of birth, pregnancy and women, influenced the decisions she made in the years considered one's "coming of age." Mostly, a specific incident, where her mother had to act in a extenuating circumstances to save the life of an unborn child or lose the life of a woman, changed her mother's (and inevitably her own) life. Eventually becoming the foundation of her past, present and future. Bohjalian has a unique (and quite accurate) perspective as an adult male writing from a woman's point of view. He will leave you with the need to celebrate who you are and the women who make an impact in your world. Though this book is fictional and entertaining, it is not to be underestimated as far as how it, in the end, will make you reconsider your own view of the women who raised you and the divine ways their lives reflect on your own.

I don't know why I always start posting things so late at night, but, now I'm tired so...I'll do more reviews another time! LUFEW all!!

My First Blog

Now that Dani (thanks you're a dream) helped me make my page all cute, I thought that maybe I should write a blog that might be worth reading. The only thing I can think of right now (that people ask me about often) is my summer in Skagway. So, Here is a brief over view of what I did this summer....

To start with, I worked at the Red Onion Saloon as a Madam. (AKA tour guide) I basically got to tour people around the historic red light district of Skagway, which was part of the Klondike Gold Rush in 1898. As well as touring people around the town and the brothel, I also "worked it" in the bar. This meant that I spent a period of time every day talking to people, Singing (mostly just Take Me Out to the Ballgame.) and taking pictures. Lots and lots and lots and lots of pictures. That's the basic discription.

Next, I spent the vast Majority of my time with about ten of the world's most inspiring women!

Each contributing to this magical summer in their own unique way! These women will inspire you to change the weather, and stand up to anyone who dared argue that you couldn't. There has never been a more unique grouping of women and all I can do is write my letter to santa asking for the chance to see them all again!

Well, I'm getting tired now, so I'm going to cut this short! Finally, there were games, guys, and nature. here are some pictures ...

So....huh?

Ok, My sister and Reagan are both "Blogging" now.
